Hey all,

I have a 02 TJ exec which has started to overheat. After driving in traffic for a while it has started to creep up in temp while idling (E.G at traffic Lights). No issues at all when moving though.

Just replaced fan, Radiators relatively new, and No sign of water/coolant in the oil system when I changed it a few days ago, Coolant has been topped up. There are also no leaks that I can see anywhere.

Turning the heater on doesn't stop the increase and it is very gradual overall. Just wondering if anyone has any Ideas at all as to why. My first impulse is to change the Thermostat as a precaution but if I can be led in the correct direction id appreciate it.

water pump is 20 years old?

Check both thermo fans kick in. One of them may be had it.

Also check the fuse for the fans. Sometimes it can short out.

I believe so. Replaced the thermostat which seemed to fix the problem then a few weeks later noticed a large coolant leak. On inspection found it coming from the water pump. O-ring had deteriorated replaced the oring and pump hoping it has fixed the issue

Water pumps should ideally be replaced every 10 years or 150ks. Its not a hard and fast rule, as wear rates vary.

Id recommend doing the timing belt, tensioners and drive belt as well.
